TALKS ON BIOCULTURAL PEACE

With Talks on Biocultural Peace, Wuasikamas Switzerland is bringing an inspiring series of encounters, dialogues, and learning opportunities to various cities across the country. The aim is to raise awareness among the Swiss public about biocultural peace, indigenous wisdom, biodiversity, and community resilience, and to build a growing support network.

What is it about?

Biocultural peace is a concept that originates from the wisdom of the Inga, Siona, and Cofán peoples and describes how human communities, ecosystems, cultural identities, and knowledge systems can live together in respect and harmony. The event series invites participants to learn about this perspective, not “just” theoretically, but through the stories and personal experiences of the people who live and shape it every day.

The central voices in this series are Hernando Chindoy Chindoy and Cristina Rodríguez, co-founders of Wuasikamas Switzerland and Wuasikamas Colombia. Both have accompanied, built and shaped educational initiatives, community projects and peace processes in Colombia for decades. Hernando is one of the internationally recognised leaders of indigenous communities and has received significant awards in the fields of human rights, the environment and community. Cristina is an educator and expert in intercultural educational processes that combine traditional wisdom and modern methodology.

In the talks, they provide insight into:

the nonviolent transformation of the Inga community of Aponte.

the power of traditional and spiritual knowledge systems.

biocultural responses to the climate and biodiversity crises.

living examples of how communities are regaining resilience and dignity.

the background to Wuasikamas' projects such as coffee, monkey cocoa, and educational initiatives.

Their knowledge is not academically invented, but deeply rooted in lived experience, cultural identity, and years of work in indigenous territories.

Why this event series is important

Switzerland faces the same global challenges as Colombia: biodiversity loss, climate change, social tensions, and increasing alienation from nature.

The Inga and other indigenous communities of the Amazon have found ways to leave conflicts behind, protect their territories, and restore the balance between humans and nature.

This series of events offers an open space for dialogue that connects people, inspires them, and invites them to get involved.

The Events

The series will take place in several Swiss cities in 2026. Inspiring lectures, dialogue formats, moderated discussions, and opportunities to meet and present selected projects from Wuasikama Colombia and Switzerland are planned.
